<image:title>About - Mark & Jacqueline: Met whilst studying for their degrees in Landscape Architecture in the early 1980’s at Thames Polytechnic (now Greenwich University) ; then one of only six schools of Landscape Architecture in the country. Thames benefited from some notable lecturers and visiting practitioners, such as Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe, Micheal Lancaster, Tom Turner, Georgina Livingston and Diana Bell. Mark initially studied Fine Art at Ipswich Art School and after being told by his tutor that his artistic career would be limited, he turned to Landscape Architecture! However, his ability to quickly sketch concepts and ideas (even in-front of clients) has proved a great asset; and especially helpful with our International clientele. With a Diploma in Historic Garden Restoration from The Architectural Association, Jacqueline’s love of historic landscapes and planting design has proved invaluable. We both have a “hands on” and practical approach to project management and take a keen interest in construction and planting on-site.</image:title>

<image:title>Coastal Gardens - Villa Pianterella, Bonifacio, Corsica - Private Villa, Corsica: Located on the stunning natural coastline of Bonifacio & overlooking an archipelago of small islands and Sardinia to the East, the house and gardens are set deep into the existing “Maquis”: a low tangle of indigenous Cork Oaks, Arbutus & ancient Juniper trees. The gardens wrap around a stunning contemporary glazed and timber-clad villa. Our client brief was to create a garden with minimal formality and that seamlessly blended into the surrounding landscape; with no discernible boundary between villa, beach & sea. With time-limited building permits and it’s relatively remote location, Corsica can be an extremely challenging environment for large projects and many are left abandoned. W e could not have met our tight client deadline without an excellent contractor; Pierre-Jean of Eco-Jardin, Propriano, with whom we continue to develop the gardens.</image:title>

<image:caption>The garden takes shape… A Chelsea garden on Main Avenue is not for the feint-hearted. With constant media scrutiny, it can be a pressured and stressful environment. With tight building & planting schedules, things don’t always go to plan. Due to the late delivery of an essential pond-liner, our garden was very nearly closed down by the RHS before the show opened! To complete a garden to a high standard and have a chance of a decent medal , favours are called in and bank overdrafts extended. Many Chelsea exhibits would probably not happen at all without the kind assistance of suppliers, friends and colleagues willing to help out. The “Provence Garden” occupied a large and notorious difficult corner site on Main Avenue. The concept was to portray an artist’s terraced garden; somewhere on a hillside in the South of France… Award: Gold Medal Contractor: Clifton Nurseries Ltd</image:title>

<image:title>Country Estates - Viegeln, Rostock, Germany - GROSS VIEGELN: A large 220 acre country estate renovation, located close to the port city of Rostock on the Baltic Sea. Our project in Eastern Germany started in 1992 - only 3 years after German reunification. When our client purchased the property, the estate was neglected and fragmentary; a legacy left over from the Communist Era. Our brief was to initially completely renovate the grounds around the large Schloss (Manor House) and traditional barn buildings, then to landscape the outlying estate. A “design & build” contract, we engaged a small UK team of specialist landscape contractors to work alongside a large local workforce. The project took over 8 years to complete, with the the final phase of work being completed in 2000.</image:title>

<image:title>Country Estates - Private Estate, Modena, Italy - Private Estate, Vignola In 1996, Watson & Walker were commissioned to develop an extensive landscape masterplan around a large traditional Modenese farmhouse; extending into adjacent/redundant Cherry orchards, the proposals included large scale formal gardens & parkland. By 2002, much of the project was built and planted. Sadly, the estate were seized by the Italian government in 2012 as part of a multi-euro EU corruption scandal. Consequently, the estate was left abandoned and neglected for a number years, until new ownership in 2019.</image:title>

For a new Russian client and in collaboration with MMM Architects, our brief was the redesign of an existing garden terrace. Used for outdoor dining, our layout included new water pools & cascades (carefully detailed to match the existing architecture), timber decking and an outdoor kitchen barn.</image:title>

<image:title>Private Gardens - Coastal House, Brancaster, Norfolk - Mill House, Norfolk: Designed by Cambridge architects Cowper Griffith, Walker & Watson were commissioned to design a minimalist but naturalistic garden around a large new build. Situated on an elevated site with sweeping views of the Norfolk coastline, our design concept was to seamlessly create a garden that blended with the surrounding coastal landscape. Reminiscent of nearby country estate Holkam Hall, large semi-mature Pine trees were imported from Germany to frame views to the sea. Thousands of russet coloured perennial grasses were planted in drifts around the house to visually merge with the distant mud flats of Brancaster Staithe.</image:title>
